Ingredients:
1 kilo of sifted plain flour
2 tablespoons of dry yeast
1/2 cup (100 g) white sugar
3 tablespoons of canola oil
A spoonful of salt
550-600 ml (2-2.5 cups) of water
Step 1:
Sift flour into a mixer and add dry yeast, sugar and salt, turn on the mixer and at slow speed
Add the oil and water little by little until the dough forms a ball.
Let the mixer work for another 8 minutes, transfer to a bowl greased with a towel for about an hour and a half to two hours, until the dough has risen and doubled in volume.
Take the dough out to a comfortable work surface, and divide it into balls weighing 150 grams
Step 2:
Place the dough balls on a lightly floured surface or tray, flour them a little on top, and cover with a towel for 1/4-1/2 hour, until the balls swell a little.
Roll into strips.
Step 3:
Braid challah from four strips and leave them to rise repeatedly on an oven tray lined with baking paper for at least 1/2 hour.
When it has almost risen, heat the oven to 180 degrees.
Step 4:
Bake in the oven for about 25-35 minutes, depending on your oven and the size of the challahs. They should come out tan as in the picture.
Cool a little and eat :)
